Patches are great for covering tears and rips or personalising your cool bag, jacket or jeans. 
 
This patch is iron on with iron on adhesive covering the reverse side but you can also tack it in place with a needle and thread too, nothing wrong with the belt and braces approach.
 
There are loads of really informative little videos on YouTube on how to attach iron on patches, just always be careful operating and handling hot irons.
